A Co Cavan woman has chained herself to the railings outside HSE offices in Monaghan in a dispute over access to carers.
57 year old Marilyn O'Connor was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease two years ago and her condition has deteriorated rapidly in recent months.
The Crossdoney native told the Joe Finnegan earlier that she was on route to chain herself to the gates of St Davnet's Campus in protest over the need for round the clock care. Marilyn has no use of her hands and legs which leaves it impossible to live an independent life without 24 hour care.
The Co Cavan woman says that, due to a staff member leaving an agency, she has been left without a carer three nights a week. Marilyn says she has been forced to pay €7,500 of her own savings for private carers, that money was due to be used her funeral costs. Speaking to Northern Sound chained to the gates of the HSE buildings in Monaghan, Marilyn says she was left with no choice but to take this course of action.
The HSE has been contacted for comment in relation to Marilyn's case by Northern Sound.
