It's a miracle no one died during Storm Darragh.

That's according to a local firefighter who has said than in the 25 years he has worked for the Cavan Fire Service he never seen anything like it. Damien Brady who is also a local councillor and firefighter in West Cavan paid tribute to his colleagues for trojan work during very difficult conditions at the weekend.

He pointed out that trees played a major part in blocking roads and leaving people to go without electricity and water for days. Cllr Brady said forestry companies who planted trees alongside roads and ESB power lines had no regard for households in the area.
