The funding model of drug and alcohol services has been described as "fundamentally flawed" with local services likely to have to close the Minister responsible has been warned.
TD Brendan Smith told the Dáil last night that the funding provided has been static for more than eight years, with costs increasing but its funding not increasing to match.

He warned Minister of State for the National Drug Strategy Frank Feighan that this is not sustainable and services are under threat.
However, Minister Feighan said the need for funding can't be examined until the 2021 budget is being drawn up.
