The Minister of State with responsibility for Farm Safety says he is "determined" to improve health and safety conditions on farms.
Minister Martin Heydon is the first minister for state with responsibility for farm safety and farmer well-being.
He says this role comes with a "hefty" duty given farm-related activities account for 50% of all deaths in Irish workplaces, despite farmers making up less than 7% of the workforce.
Yesterday, Minister Heydon launched a €1 million call for proposals for innovative farm health, safety, and wellbeing projects under the European Innovation Partnerships.
