Sinn Féin's Justice Spokesperson has criticised statements made by Minister Heather Humphreys on delays to the scoping exercise into Shane O'Farrell's death but the Minister has rejected the claims.
Shane O'Farrell was killed in a hit and run while cycling on the N2 outside Carrickmacross in August 2011.
His family have been calling for answers into his death as the driver of the car had numerous convictions, had breached bail conditions and they claim he was allowed to pass through a Garda checkpoint shortly before the crash.
Taking questions in the Dáil this morning as acting Justice Minister, Humphreys said the Judge carrying out the inquiry is awaiting a response to a recent request for information from the O'Farrell family and GSOC.
She also said "it is only right that we should give them the space to respond to him".
In a statement to Shannonside Northern Sound News today, Martin Kenny says the Minister must apologise to Lucia O'Farrell for suggesting she has contributed to the delays.
Minister Humphreys has rejected this assertion, saying she has met with the O'Farrell family in the past and understands "the terrible pain the family have suffered" and that they should be given time to respond.
This is a gross misrepresentation of what I told the Dáil. I said it is only right the O’Farrell family are given space to respond to a recent request from Judge Haughton. I know the terrible pain the family have suffered and we hope for a recommendation from the Judge soon. https://t.co/PcKSYMe7Id

Earlier this morning, Deputy Kenny pressed for a specific timeline for when the report will be published.
