Cuan, the new statutory agency dedicated to tackling and reducing domestic, sexual and gender-based violence will focus on accelerating the delivery of new refuge spaces throughout the country.
In a parliamentary question by Deputy Matt Carthy recently he asked the Minister for Justice for an update on the proposal to establish a domestic violence refuge centre in County Monaghan. The Justice Minister says this agency will ensure that everyone who needs a refuge space will get one. She said The Government agreed to immediately prioritise the delivery of 98 family refuge spaces across the country and this includes 8 spaces in Cavan and Monaghan.
Minister McEntee says the government has committed to working with the sector to double the number of refuge spaces over the lifetime of the strategy, bringing it to 280 by the end of 2026. Minister McEntee says she intends to accelerate the delivery of additional places year on year.
