Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys is reportedly taking over Minister Helen McEntee’s portfolio when she goes on maternity leave next week. The arrangement is yet to be signed off on by the three coalition leaders, with confirmation expected on Monday.
A cabinet shuffle is due to take place on December 17th, when Tanaiste Leo Varadkar and Taoiseach Micheal Martin swap roles. At a press conference yesterday, the Cavan Monaghan Minister praised Minister McEntee for starting a family while holding office:
"I saw it many times in the past where women wouldn't go forward for jobs because they were afraid that if they got pregnant they would lose out. This isn't happening here; Helen holds one of the highest offices in the land and she really has broke the glass ceiling on all of this," Minister Humphreys said.
