Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys was the first to speak in the Dail earlier today where she formally proposed Simon Harris as the next Taoiseach.
She said during Covid he "displayed real leadership" and saved lives. The local Minister said that unlike those who will shout the loudest today, Simon Harris was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
Ms Humphreys said that Simon Harris simply wants to help and break down barriers and make life better for people. The Cavan/Monaghan TD predicts that under Simon Harris’ leadership there will be improvements for people with disabilities.
During her speech earlier Minister Humphreys also paid tribute to Mr. Varadkar who's she says the Government he led faced massive challenges. She said Leo was the Taoiseach this country needed when the pandemic hit us.
The work he, along with Simon Coveney, put in day and night during the Brexit negotiations to ensure there would be no return to a hard border on our island will never be forgotten. Minister Humphreys say Mr Varadkar is handing over a country at full employment and with a budget surplus
