The Minister for Social Protection has defended the Government's decisions on spending in Budget 2025.
The Irish Fiscal Advisory Council criticised yesterday's Budget and accused the Government of repeating past mistakes. It called it inflationary and a "boom-to-bust" measure. Minister for Social Protection and TD for Cavan-Monaghan, Heather Humphreys refuted this claim. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, she says money is being invested in both present and future projects
"We have an economy that is going extremely well. We're going to have a healthy surplus at the end of the year. We're putting billions into future funds. We're putting money away for the rainy days. There's more investment in infrastructure and in climate action than ever before. People are finding it hard at the minute".
The Minister also refused to be drawn on a potential general election in November and said she hasn't discussed it with the Taoiseach
"I haven't discussed the date for the election with him and as I said to somebody else, it's above my paygrade and i'm glad I don't have to make that decision because that'll be on the shoulders of others".
