Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys has today announced almost €109,000 for enhancements at the library facilities in Carrickmacross and Clones.
The branch in Carrickmacross is to receive funding of €57,420, while Clones will receive €51,300.
The funding, is part of an overall nationwide investment of €3.1 million, which will be used to purchase equipment as part of the 'My Open Library' initiative.
Minister Humphreys says the funding will allow libraries to "further improve" their facilities for the benefit of their members by allowing people to access their local library outside of normal opening hours, including Saturdays.
She believes the improved access will benefit those who like to visit their library early in the morning or late in the evening due to work commitments.
Deputy Niamh Smyth also welcomed the announcement, stating that local libraries like Carrickmacross and Clones provide an "essential service" to people, both young and old.
