The Minister for Finance Pascal Donoghue has hinted that next Tuesday's Budget will not be a complete give-away.
The Government has reported a surplus of over four billion Euro which it can spend in 2023.
However there are growing calls to use the money to reduce energy costs for financially-stretched families.
Speaking in Limerick yesterday, Finance Minister Pascal Donoghue indicated that the Government will put more money in people's pockets but it will have to reserve significant funds for possible unforeseen events.
"We want to ensure that we have the ability to continue to respond back, throughout 2023, if things get more challenging or if we have to deal with new risks. But what we will bring further, particularly in the measures that we will implement this year, is more money in people's pockets because we know they need it and we are going to help."
