The Taoiseach has appointed a new party deputy leader following Minister Heather Humphreys' announcement she will not seek re-election in the next General Election.
Minister Helen McEntee will take the Cavan-Monaghan TD's place as Deputy Leader of Fine Gael.
In a statement issued to Shannonside Northern Sound News, Simon Harris paid tribute to Heather Humphreys, saying she has been "a trailblazer in Irish politics."
The Taoiseach added that she has been a "loyal and dedicated Minister and Deputy Leader," but that "if the last few weeks have taught the Fine Gael family anything, it is that life is short and health and wellbeing should always be prioritised."
In the statement, Simon Harris confirmed that Humphreys will remain Minister for Social Protection and Rural Affairs.
In the meantime, Justice Minister Helen McEntee will step into the Monaghan politician's former role.
The Taoiseach described Minister Helen McEntee as "steeped in the Fine Gael values of equality and opportunity."
The statement concluded with Simon Harris affirming Fine Gael's fight to win every vote in the General Election and the party's determination to "take nothing for granted."
