The Minister for Social Protection says she disputes claims that she is against the right for people to retire on a fair pension.
Earlier this week, Minister Heather Humphreys announced changes to the pension age, giving people the choice to retire at the age of 66, or alternatively work until the age of 70 and receive a higher pension sum.
Despite concerns from the opposition, the local politician told the Joe Finnegan Show that the age to retire will stay at 66, and that the announcement was centred on giving people "more flexibility" when it comes to retirement.
Minister Humphreys added that the public reaction she has received has been "positive" and that she will continue to put pathways in place as to how pensions will be funded:
