The Minister of State with responsibility for the OPW has announced the appointment of consultant engineers for Cavan Town Flood Relief Scheme.
This afternoon, Minister Patrick O'Donovan officiated the appointment by Cavan County Council of Byrne Looby Consulting Engineers to carry out the design.
The scheme, once completed, will protect 110 properties that are currently at risk of flooding in the town.
It's part of the Government's investment under Project Ireland 2040 of €1.3 billion in flood relief to protect communities from the impacts of climate change.
The Cavan Town Flood Relief scheme has a preliminary cost estimate of €7.3m, and may include a series of hard defences, including flood embankments and walls.
Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr Clifford Kelly has encouraged all stakeholders to have their say on this important scheme by participating in future public consultation.
