The long awaited visit of President Michael D. Higgins to the village of Glaslough in Co Monaghan has arrived. He is set to arrive in the village this morning at 10:30am.
The President of Ireland is in Glaslough as Guest of Honour to celebrate Glaslough Tidy Towns success in the 2019 National SuperValu Tidy Towns Competition. The picturesque village of Glaslough was overall winner of Ireland’s Tidy Towns competition in 2019 but because of former Covid restrictions the President will only now get to visit the tidy town. Volunteers have been working tirelessly over a long number of weeks for this day and the local tidy towns team have also banned election posters in the village due to the president's visit.
Road closures have also come into effect from now in that area with diversions in place. The President's visit to Glaslough follows on from his attendance at a commemoration for the 50th anniversary of the Monaghan Bombings in Monaghan Town yesterday evening.
