Co Monaghan consistently has one of the highest suicide rates in the country yet has the sixth lowest number of mental health beds available for people. That's according to local election candidate for North Monaghan, Bronagh McAree who also works as a psychiatric nurse. The Sinn Fein candidate and Emyvale native recently raised her concerns over the lack of funding towards mental health services in Co Monaghan.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Ms McAree said "too many" families have been left bereaved by suicide and that "too often" people are left to rely on charities as opposed to the HSE. She believes that Co Monaghan has been "forgotten about."
