The three men convicted of abducting and harming Co Fermangh businessman Kevin Lunney have been jailed for a total of 73 years following a sentence hearing at the non-jury Special Criminal Court this morning
A man, who can’t be named by court order but know as AZ was sentenced to 30 years; Alan O’Brien (40) East Wall, Dublin was jailed for 25 years while and Darren Redmond (27), East Wall, Dublin received a prison sentence of 18 years with the final three suspended.
The three were convicted last month of falsely imprisoning the director of what was known back in 2019 as Quinn Industrial Holdings. They were also convicted of causing him serious harm.
The court heard how, after being bundled into the back of a car outside his home in September 2019, Kevin Lunney was taken to a horse box in Co Cavan where he was stripped, punched, beaten with a stick, attacked and branded with a knife, doused in bleach, and then dumped on the side of a quiet country road.
In his victim impact statement, Mr Lunney said he didn’t know why the three men did what they did.
He said he couldn’t fathom the reasoning behind it but he said he was also mindful that full accountability wasn’t yet complete.
