A new report from Men’s Aid Ireland has found that there has been a 37% increase in demand for its domestic abuse support service for men. Men’s Aid - which has headquarters in Cavan, Monaghan and Louth - launched its Annual Report for 2021earlier this week and it shows 7,561 contacts were made to the domestic abuse support service.
The service highlighted that men from 18 to 85 years accessed its support last year with demand increasing all the time. Kathrina Bentley, the organisation's CEO, told Northern Sound that men are reaching out for emotional and psychological support because of coercive control by women.
She added that men who find themselves in abusive relationships are "finally starting to come forward". "The services are there to start the journey. But its important to remember that this is a confidential service and we are hear to help and support and to give the information.
"We empower the man to make those decisions and reassure him that we are with him along the path.
