The Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr TP O'Reilly led tributes to former Councillor, Cathaoirleach, and TD for Cavan-Monaghan Andrew Boylan, who died on Friday.
At the councils monthly meeting yesterday Cllr O'Reilly said that Andrew "embodied public service and made a real difference to the people of Cavan during a stellar political career".
He was described as an absolute gentleman by the other councillors gathered. Cllr John Paul Feeley described his death as an end of an era especially in the Butlersbridge area.
He said Mr Boylan had a real passion for his community, farming and for football. Cllr Clifford Kelly who served alongside Andrew on the council said he was one of nature's gentlemen whose heart was always in Cavan and that he would do anything for the people of Cavan.
Cllr Patricia Walsh said he was an out and out gentleman who did a tremendous amount of work for Cavan. While Cllr Shane P O'Reilly added that the county was the better for having Andrew Boylan representing the county locally and nationally.
Fine Gael councillor Winston Bennett said that Andrew was a wonderful man that was very much about community and family and down through the years have represented the people of this region with distinction.
While Cllr Trevor Smith said Andrew had a wonderful passion for life and for his county and as councillors all representatives should strive to to as much for Cavan as Mr Boylan has done throughout his life.
All council members at the meeting extended their sympathies to Andrew's wife Margot and children Gerard, Andrew, Matt, Fergal, and Bríd.
