A member of the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland says concerns over people travelling from the North to pubs here can be overcome.
Padraig Cribben is the Chief Executive of the VFI and he wants all pubs to be given the opportunity to open together when restrictions ease.
He says that this is not like earlier in the year when this was new, publicans know what to expect and have the measures in place to ensure the safety of staff and customers.
Padraig feels NPHET is showing its inherent bias against drinking and pubs stating ‘we’d never open if it was up to them.’
While he acknowledges there could be problems around the border, he is calling for pubs to be given the chance to prove they can work within the guidelines:
