A meeting is being held in Glaslough tonight in a bid to prevent a mast being built in Glaslough village.
Vodafone has applied for permission to replace an existing mast at the Eir exchange in the village and replace it with a new 19.5m structure.
In its application it says the mast will ensure continued coverage for Vodafone and "new wireless broadband services for Eir". It also says it will improve phone and broadband services in the area.
Tonight's meeting in the Oakland Centre in Glaslough aims to encourage local businesses, groups and individuals to object to the development.
Organisers claim the mast would "take away the picturesque setting and character" of the village and raised concerns over health and safety.
Submissions can be made on the plans until next Wednesday (June 30th) and Monaghan County Council is due to make a decision on the application by the end of July.
