A meeting is taking place in Co Cavan tonight to discuss the impact of the new Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) curriculum in schools. It's one of a series of meetings that have been organised by Aontú and takes place at 8pm in the Shantully Inn, Crossdoney.
Party Leader, Peadar Tóibín says there are elements of the curriculum that many parents are unhappy with. He pointed out that tonight's event will provide them with an opportunity to explore the matter further and discuss any concerns they may have.
He added that the meetings nationwide have seen "thousands of people" attend in an effort to explore the curriculum further. "The meeting is a series of meetings that have been organised by Aontú around the country," he continued.
"So far, thousands of people have attended; what has happened is, the Government has introduced a new SPHE sex education curriculum into primary and secondary schools. That curriculum is not based on science and many, many parents are really frustrated and angry with it."
