AIB will be quizzed about its debt write-down policy when it appears before TDs and senators later today. Representatives from the bank are being brought before the Oireachtas Finance Committee for the first time since revelations about DJ Carey's finances.
AIB allegedly wrote off 99% of a multi-million euro debt owed by the former Kilkenny hurler. Committee member and Aontú leader, Peadar Tóibín, told Northern Sound that he wants to know how many other customers received such treatment.
"Outside of the construction industry, how many others were given write downs of this nature - write downs of over 80%? We need to work out was this enormous write down an outlier and if it was, why? We also want to work out the bank's methodology on this because most people who have been in mortgage distress in this country - especially the ones I have worked with - have been chased for every last cent," he added.
