There needs to be management role for forests with sustainable and archaeological sites outside of Coillte's remit. That's according to Cllr John Paul Feeley, who was responding to Cllr Sarah O'Reilly's calls for recreational users of forests to take more responsibility when it comes to health and safety during a recent meeting of Cavan County Council.
Cllr Feeley highlighted how many forests throughout Co Cavan provide access to amenities, monuments and sacred sites. He said a number of those sites were "very valuable" from a sustainable and archaeological perspective.
Cllr Feeley added that a management of those sites would prove very beneficial for future preservation and enjoyment by the public.
