The number of people facing charges for drug and dangerous driving offences has been consistently rising over the years.
According to statistics released to Aontú, in 2019, just 48 people were brought to court for drug-driving offenses.
However, in 2020, this figure rose to 587 - in 2021, it further increased to 1 thousand 735 - and last year, it reached a record high of 2 thousand 248.
So far, in the first half of this year, over 1 and a half thousand people have already appeared in court for drug-driving offences.
Peadar Tóibín, Aontú's leader, thinks the laws need to change.
