Marty Morrissey has been quick to come out and hold his hands up to what he called an error of judgement on his part.
That's the view of Cavan political commentator, Sean McKiernan who has been reacting to the news that Marty Morrissey had the use of a car in an arrangement with Renault for over five years.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, The Cavan native said the reason why Marty Morrissey will be commentating this week on RTE is that he doesn't work in the current affairs side of things which in turn creates a different scenario to that of Ryan Tubridy.
The sports reporter has described it as an "ad hoc" arrangement, adding that as he didn't seek a fee for events nationwide, Renault offered him the use of the car instead.
In a statement issued yesterday evening, the RTE sports correspondent stated he had never been appointed as a brand ambassador for Renault, and voluntarily returned it on the 23rd of June.
Sean McKiernan believes the County Clare native did the right thing by coming out last night with a statement.
