Market rents were on average "higher" across Cavan and Monaghan in the third quarter of 2023 than a year previously. In Monaghan, market rents were on average 13.1% higher in that time period, meaning that the average listed rent is now €1,188, up 130% from its lowest point. Meanwhile, market rents in Cavan were on average 15.4% higher in the third quarter of 2023 than a year previously. The average listed rent is now €1,256, up 166% from its lowest point.
The overall rental market, according to figures published in the latest Daft.ie Report, has emerged slightly from its worst shortages of the post-lockdown period. For the third quarter in a row, there was a noticeable difference between trends in Dublin and elsewhere.
Ronan Lyons, Associate Professor of Economics at Trinity College Dublin. In a statement issued to Northern Sound in relation to the report, Mr Lyons said there were almost 1,800 homes available to rent on November 1st, a 64% increase compared to the same date a year previously. However, he added that having just 1,800 homes on the rental market for a country that has, as of the April 2022 Census, at least 330,000 households in the private rental market is far too little.
