Margo, one of Ireland's most successful country music stars, announced on Northern Sound she will no longer perform for large audiences. "The Girl from Donegal" who has made Castleblayney her home, celebrates 60 years in the music business this year.
She was a guest on a special outside broadcast with Northern Sound in Oram, Co. Monaghan who was the hometown of another country music great and close friend of Margo's, Big Tom. During an interview when Margo performed the first ever radio play of a duet she and Big Tom recorded just before he passed away in 2018, she said singers "never retire" but, her days of playing large venues are over.
Just last week she celebrated 60 years in the business with a concert in Letterkenny and said that gig was her way of marking the landmark year and will not be followed up with similar large events. She said she discussed her plans with her brother, Daniel O'Donnell, last year who agreed with her decision: "I actually made Letterkenny my last big concert and I didn't announce that I'm retiring because I'm not retiring but, I would do small intimate ones," Margo told Northern Sound, "I had a chat with Daniel last year and I said I want to finish oin my 60th and we sat and talked about it and he said 'I think you're wise' so, that's all I want to do but I'll do little shows. I'll never stop singing because I always say God gave me this when he put us here and he'll take it away when we go."
