The manager of a local autism centre says education for children with the illness must be person focused.
Helena Tighe-Giles who is manager of the Cavan Autism and Training Centre was responding to the plans by Government to establish education centres to cater for the needs of children with autism and intellectual disabilities.
Nationally, there is huge opposition to the move from parents, groups and associations and Ms Tighe-Giles told the Wider View today she understands why there is frustration.
Helena says education for children with autism must be "person focused."
She believes "one side doesn't fit all" and that it is "vitally important" to ensure that every child is catered for.
Helena added that while any move forward is "positive", Government must be careful on how it is rolled-out.
Government must also ensure, she added, that children are placed in the correct environment to support their learning.
