A man is to stand trial for the murder of a south Armagh baby almost a year ago.
32-year-old Sharyar Ali, of Westenra Terrace in Monaghan is accused of murdering 11-month-old Hunter Patrick McGleenon in Keady last November.
He's also charged with assault and causing actual bodily harm to the child prior to his death.
During a committal hearing before Armagh Magistrates Court sitting in Newry, a prosecution lawyer said there is a case to answer, which was agreed by District Judge Eamon King.
When the charges were put to Sharyar Ali who appeared by video-link from prison, he replied: "I'm not saying anything. I don't even understand."
Asked if he wished to call witnesses or give evidence on his own behalf at this stage, Ali replied: "I don't understand."
A defence lawyer said he would clarify any issues after the hearing.
Ali was described as a "father figure" to the County Armagh baby, and the Court had previously heard he was the person looking after Baby Hunter the night he died.
The toddler was pronounced dead on November 26th last from "non-accidental trauma."
Police claim that on the night in question, Ali went to a Dundalk casino and to collect post in Monaghan town, with Hunter either left in the car or at home.
Judge King remanded Sharyar Ali in continuing custody to appear for arraignment at Newry Crown Court, next month.
