The man arrested in connection with the death of Ballyconnell woman Annie Heyneman remains in custody this morning. A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed to Northern Sound that the male, who is in his 30s, is still being detained. Ms Heyneman was found dead in her home at Derrycassan Lane close to Kilnavart Church at around 9.30pm on Saturday.
It is understood she had been stabbed several times and her husband, Henk, received serious injuries during the incident. Gardaí are not looking for anyone else in connection with the tragic incident. The suspect alerted local people to the attack and was later arrested. Gardaí have 24 hours to charge or release the man, who has been in custody since Saturday night but, that period was extended to allow time for breaks and the suspect to receive medical treatment.
