A 31-year-old man appeared earlier this afternoon via video link at Cavan District Court charged with murder and attempted murder. Danny Heyneman of Kilnavart in Ballyconnell is charged with the murder of his mother Annie Heyneman at Kilnavart last Saturday night, and also the attempted murder of his father Henk Heyneman on the same date at their family home.
The defendant is currently in custody in Cloverhill Prison following his appearance on Wednesday at Monaghan District Court. He appeared today via video link in court to Judge Raymond Finnegan. Defence solicitor Damien Rudden told the judge that his client wanted to be transferred to Castlerea Prison but the Judge Finnegan said he didn't have the power to do that and the defendant would be required to make an application for transfer to Castlerea.
It's understood that Danny Heyneman attacked his parents at the family home on Derrycasan Lane before leaving the scene to raise the alarm in a takeaway in Ballyconnell about 5kms away. Mr Heyneman was remanded in custody to appear again via video link at Cavan District Court next Thursday January 23rd.
