A theft has occurred in Co Monaghan involving a male purporting to be a member of the gardaí.
The theft of a sum of cash from an elderly person in the Scotshouse area happened yesterday morning at around 11 am.
The male claimed to be a member of the gardaí and produced what appeared to be garda identification.
He then referenced a number of break-ins in the area and requested to examine money belonging to the elderly victim.
When the culprit received the money, he said he needed to examine it further and left the scene.
Anyone in the Scotshouse and Redhills area who noticed anything suspicious yesterday morning is asked to make contact with Monaghan Garda Station.
Gardaí are using the incident to remind the public not to entertain cold callers to their homes and to only open the door when satisfied that the caller is genuine.
