A man has been charged following an incident of dangerous driving and criminal damage to a Garda vehicle in Monaghan.
The incident occurred in the early hours of this morning. At around 2am on Friday morning, uniformed Gardaí on patrol in Ballykelly, Co Louth, observed a car travelling at speed towards Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan. The vehicle drove at the marked patrol car and Gardaí had to take evasive action to avoid being deliberately struck. A pursuit ensued, and an Armed Support Unit car was deliberately rammed in Inniskeen. The chase continued through a number of townlands in Killmurray and Culloville, where the man attempted to ram the ASU car again. He lost control of the vehicle and two men in their 20s were arrested. A third fled on foot and a search of the car revealed a quantity of drugs and cash. One man has been charged in relation to the incident and is due before Monaghan District Court on January 13th. No injuries were reported and a file is now being prepared for the DPP.
Anyone who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the areas from Ballykelly, Co Louth to Ednamo, Inniskeen, Co Monaghan and to Kilmurray, Culloville, between 1.50am to 2.30am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
