Gardaí investigating the disappearance and murder of Kyran Durnin (8 years) have today, Thursday 12th December 2024 arrested a male on suspicion of murder. The man is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the east of the country. Investigating Gardaí have also commenced searches at 2 locations, domestic houses, in Drogheda. The purpose of these searches is to discover any evidence which might provide us with information as to Kyran's current whereabouts or what has happened to Kyran.
Meanwhile, Gardaí are facing a number of challenges to progress the murder case of Kyran Durnin. A woman who was questioned about his disappearance has been released without charge. It was the first arrest in the case but Gardaí still don't know when Kyran was killed and still haven't found his remains.
Irish Times Crime and Security Editor Conor Lally says investigations will take a while; "I think this is going to be a long and painstaking inquiry, When this woman was detained on Tuesday expectations were raised that there was going to be a break-through in this case. Obviously that hasn't happened, this woman was abroad and returned home unexpectedly. When the Gardaí learned she was in Ireland they detained and questioned her."
