A man has gone on trial accused of conspiring with Aaron Brady to persuade a key witness not to give evidence at Brady's trial for the murder of a Garda. Dean Byrne, of Cabra Park, Phibsborough, Dublin, is said to have acted as an agent for Brady while they were both in Mountjoy Prison during his trial in 2020. During Aaron Brady’s trial for the murder of Det Garda Adrian Donohoe, a New York based barman called Daniel Cahill gave evidence of Brady telling him on three occasions that he had a shot a garda in Ireland.
Brady had fled to the US after the shooting outside Lordship Credit Union. Today, Lorcan Staines, the prosecuting barrister in Dean Byrne’s trial, described Mr Cahill as a “very important witness” and it is the State’s case that Mr Byrne conspired with Brady to persuade him not to testify at his trial by contacting acquaintances of Mr Cahill’s with a mobile phone he’s alleged to have had in prison. Earlier today, Brady admitted a charge of perverting the course of justice and his conspiracy charge will be taken into account at his sentence hearing next month.
