A 31-year-old man accused of his mother’s murder and the attempted murder of his father in Co Cavan last weekend has been remanded in custody.
Danny Heyneman, of Kilnavart, Ballyconnell, County Cavan, appeared before Monaghan District Court this morning. 55-year-old Annie Heyneman was found dead following an alleged assault at her home in Ballyconnell, County Cavan on Saturday night.
Gardaí were alerted to what they described as a 'serious incident' in the rural townland of Kilnavart, around 6km outside of Ballyconnell.
When gardaí arrived at the family home on Derrycasan Lane, Annie Heyneman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband Henk was seriously injured in the alleged attack, and required treatment in hospital. This morning, Monaghan District Court heard from Det Sgt Sharon Walsh, who gave evidence of the arrest, charge and caution of Danny Heyneman.
She said the accused gave no reply when the charges were presented to Mr Heyneman under caution. There was no bail hearing as there is a murder charge, and any such application in this instance must be made before the High Court. Judge Raymond Finnegan remanded the accused in custody to appear before Cavan District Court via videolink on Friday.
