Tesco, Aldi and Lidl will cut the price of their own-brand bread from today. All three supermarkets will reduce the price of their standard loaves by 10c. The move comes after junior Minister Neale Richmond held discussions with the retail forum yesterday amid soaring food and grocery costs.
Today he's meeting farmers. Labour TD Ged Nash says families and workers are struggling with increased costs at the supermarket checkout. "We believe that he was absolutely schooled by the supermarkets and by the big players, in particular, who are in our view retaining very high profits on the backs of hard-pressed consumers.
"We don't even know if the Minister has delivered on the pledge he made this week in the Dail to request supermarkets to publish their profits and be more transparent in how it is they price their products," he added
