A major plan is in place for a restoration and upgrade of the Carrickmacross Workhouse. According to Cllr PJ O'Hanlon, it is intended that a multi-disciplinary design team shall be engaged in quarter 2 of this year. This will progress the scheme through to construction readiness.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr O'Hanlon revealed that the programme for the delivery of the current Category 2 enabling project anticipates a projection duration of 12 months from the date of the appointment consults.
He added that the finalised masterplan for the Workhouse site will provide for a pipeline of projects over the next number of years. "It is a long-term project, but we have to keep our finger on the pulse to make sure that this is done as quickly as possible.
"When this project is completed, there is absolutely no doubt that it will be one of the finest facilities not just in Carrickmacross but definitely in the North East."
