The Department of Transport has announced major funding this afternoon for national roads across the region.
The N2 Clontibret to the border has received an allocation of €2.5 million while the N2 Ardee to south Castleblayney bypass sees an investment of €600,000 for the purposed allocation in 2023.
Virginia bypass has been given an allocation of €2 million under this announcement by the Government today. The Department of Transport is providing €491m of Exchequer capital funds for national roads to local authorities which will see allocations for 34 major projects across the country in total. Local Minister Heather Humphreys said that "These road allocations will allow to build on the investment that has taken place over the last 20 years which has helped improve regional connectivity and has supported economic development across the country.
Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD, Brendan Smith has welcomed the major allocation saying this very substantial funding will enable a very comprehensive programme of improvement works to be carried out on our primary and secondary roads in both counties. I very much welcome the specific allocation of €2M for the N3 Virginia Bypass and this will mean a significant step forward for this important and much-needed road project.
