Two Cavan GAA clubs, a gymnastics club in Monaghan and a community hub in Cootehill have just received news of over €300 thousand euro in funding.
Mullahoran GFC has been awarded just over 50 thousand euro to carry out drainage and resurfacing of the walking track at their club. While over in Virginia, Ramor United GAA are to receive a 112 thousand euro share of the total to create a multi-purpose activity area.
The funding is being provided by the Department of Rural and Community Development to assist the development of a number of local recreational and sporting projects. Cootehill Town Team are to spend the more than €120,000 euro it received for the redevelopment of the community hub in the north Cavan area.
And, in Monaghan, the Border Bounce Gymnastics Club plan to spend their €50, 000 euro in funding on renovating a derelict building in their community
to create a new community hub.
Cavan-Monaghan TD Niamh Smyth said the money will go towards helping engage new communities to the region. Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smyth said the funding recognises the "huge efforts" made by local groups in providing community spaces:
