Almost €316,000 of funding has been announced for forest parks, walking trails and outdoor amenities across Cavan and Monaghan.
The investment is part of a Strategic Partnership between the Department of Rural and Community Development and Coillte that is designed to boost rural tourism and local economies.

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, announced the funding today of €3 million to develop and upgrade over 300 forest parks, walking trails and outdoor amenities.
Among the projects being supported under the €3million initiative include, Killykeen Forest Park in Cavan which received a funding allocation of €144,000 for car park resurfacing works.
Dun an Ri Forest Park will receive a funding allocation of 4,608 for trail upgrades and riverbank restoration works, whilst Rossmore Park in Monaghan will receive a total funding allocation of 28,000 for the upgrade of new toilet facilities.

Bailieboro, new signage and picnic units and benches, €4,608; Bawnboy, general maintenance, €2,304; Burren, general maintenance, €3,456; Castleterra, resurface trail, €6,912; Deerpark, general maintenance of tracks and trails, €5,760; Dun an Ri Forest Park, trail upgrade and riverbank restoration work to protect trails on river bank, €4,608; Senator Billy Fox, general maintenance, €576.
Monaghan;
Black Island, general maintenance and tree surgery along trails, €4,608; Dartry, general maintenance, €6,912; Derrygorry Millenium Woodlands, painting of seats/marker posts and clean/paint bridge, €17,280.
