A local group in Co Cavan has begun bringing plans for the redevelopment of St Michael's Hall in Cootehill to fruition.
The community centre - which was built in 1905 as a parish hall - has stood the test of time for over 100 years - but is badly in need of a makeover.
Connie Whelan of the newly established committee, says the building needs "substantial" works carried out so that it can meet the current and future needs of the local town and its people.
She highlighted how an Open Day next weekend will help to inform everyone about what needs to be done and the fund raising effort that will need to be subsequently rolled out.
Connie added the occasion will also provide everyone in the locality with the opportunity to give some much-valued feedback on what the hall should look like when works are completed.
"We are taking a lease from St Felim's Trust which is the owner of the hall; we are in the process of getting that sorted.
We have a great committee; we have 17 members who are great, hardworking people here in the community. So it's full steam ahead now in terms of funding; sourcing grants and getting our plans drawn up.
