91 driving test no-shows were recorded in Cavan and Monaghan in the first half of this year.
According to the Irish Independent, Monaghan had the lowest number of no-shows in the country from January to July. A total of 4,437 motorists failed to show up for their driving test up until July 31st of this year, which is on course so far surpass last year's total figure of 6,441.
Locally, Cavan had 63 no-shows for driving tests, whilst Monaghan had 28, the lowest figure nationally. Anyone who fails to show up for a driving test is not entitled to a refund, meaning revenue is withheld by the RSA.
The 63 missed tests in Cavan resulted in €5,355 being retained by the authority and €2,380 in Monaghan. The area with the most no-shows so far this year is Dublin at 1,875, followed by Cork and Limerick.
Junior Transport Minister James Lawless says the situation is improving and steps are being taken to prevent people from missing multiple tests. Meanwhile David Martin, Head of Media Relations at the RSA, says the loophole, which allows learner drivers to renew their permit multiple times, is a real safety concern:
