A national organisation in the USA that is spearheaded by a Co Louth woman will be presented with a Presidential Award in Dublin in December. End-Sepsis, was established ten years ago by Ciaran Staunton from Westport and his wife Orlaith from Drogheda after their son died of the disease.
They will receive the award for Outstanding service by the Irish Abroad from President Michael D Higgins. Ciaran Staunton, says Aras an Uachtaráin has never forgotten the plight of Irish emigrants around the world.
"He is one of the few in Ireland who has always kept an eye out for the emigrant. They are the ones who were often forgotten about once they arrived at Holyhead or Kennedy Airport," added Mr Staunton.
