Long-serving member of staff at Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board, Berni Power, has retired after 40 years.
Berni began her career as a junior grade typist with Cavan VEC as soon as she finished school in April 1978.
In a statement, CMETB said Berni Power held many posts within the organisation and by the time she retired Berni filled the role of Director of Organisation Support and Development.
Describing Berni as a "driving force" CMETB said "over the years she lobbied hard for the development of education facilities and the provision of capital funding within the Cavan and Monaghan region."
In particular, Berni's "work ethic and committment" during the 2013 pivotal amalgamation of Cavan VEC and Monaghan VEC into Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board saw her promoted her to the management team within CMETB," the statement read.
Impressively, Berni studied for and achieved third-level qualifications while balancing the responsibilites of her career.
Now, Berni, who hails from Kilnagarbet, Tullyco, "leaves behind a transformed and strengthened educational landscape in Cavan and Monaghan", her CMETB colleagues say.
