A long serving Castleblayney Garda has retired after 38 years of being posted in the County Monaghan Town.
Pat Merrick has become one of the longest serving and best-known members of the local station due to his various roles and positions in a variety of local voluntary groups
The public are invited to an event this evening which has been organised to mark the retirement of the well-known garda who has been stationed in the town since 1984.
The event is due to take place on Tuesday next 1st November at 7pm in Concra Wood Golf Club and all are welcome.
Some of his community involvement includes his contribution and dedication to the work of Castleblayney Tidy Towns, which has spanned for over 20 years.
Pat is a keen athlete also played football with Oram GFC and was heavily involved in the local Macra Club in his early years in the town.
He was also instrumental in bringing the Saturday morning Park Run to Lough Muckno.
Originally from Claremorris, Pat was recently chosen from the region to be on a special unit of trained pallbearers at state funerals.
