The Minister for Education, Norma Foley has announced that the new special school for Co. Monaghan will be under the patronage of Cavan/Monaghan Education and Training Board.
The chosen location is Castleblayney with the specific location in the town to be announced in the coming days.
The school will cater for children and young people with complex special education needs up to 18 years of age. It was revealed previously that this school will be operational for the start of the next school year in September.
Minister Foley said today's update is an important milestone because it allows more time for the planning of school admissions, recruitment of staff, staff training and undertaking necessary building works. This advanced forward planning for the next school year 2025/2026 will ensure that appropriate placements are available to meet the needs of students with special educational needs.
According to local representatives this is a much needed educational facility for Co. Monaghan. Senator Robbie Gallagher said it was good news for the county of Monaghan. Meanwhile, Deputy Niamh Smyth said she was happy with the central location of the new school.
