A local councillor has expressed his concerns in relation to the recent surge in thefts from farm premises and other rural locations across Co Monaghan. According to Cllr Paudge Connolly, public awareness and intervention is "key" in preventing such crimes from taking place.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Connolly stressed the "importance" of people signing up to the local Garda text alert app. According to Cllr Connolly, he is "strongly advising" members of the people to find out how the app works.
"We owe it to ourselves and our local communities to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity," explained Cllr Connolly. "It's important for people to be alerted when something is happening. If there is something suspicious happening in your area you will receive a text alert.
"If you're told for example that a black Audi is driving about your area suspiciously, it's quite easy for people when they're out and about like going to the shop or perhaps picking children up from school to keep an eye put. That's the value of this service and I really do think it can make a huge difference in preventing local crime."
