Taoiseach Michael Martin has indicated that these credits won’t be available next winter, with Government currently having no plans to continue energy credits in the next budget.

Locals from the Northern Sound region are being reminded to get on top of their energy bills before it's too late. That's the advice from Karl Cronin who is the Regional Manager at North Connacht & Ulster Money Advice and Budgeting Services based in Cavan.

According to Karl, the CRU advised that 10% of electricity customers are in arrears as of November 2024, but that figure is at the lowest number it has been since March 2024. Similarly for gas as well, 23% of domestic customers were in arrears in November but that number is the lowest it's been since February 2024. Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, Karl believes one of the attributes driving the decrease is Government energy credits. He says it's important for households to use these credits, due to the indication from Government that they will not be available next winter.
